My reasons for naming
this piece "Goddess" were very subjective. The shapes in the
drawing seemed quite feminine as I developed them, and something in
the finished work suggests a "presence". This drawing is part
of a series developed to create a meditative space in a small gallery
room. The series was expanded for installation in the Dadian Gallery
of the Center for the Arts and Religion at Wesley Theological Seminary,
Washington, DC. These abstracts are derived from the concepts of earth,
air, fire, and water--elements which hold spiritual significance in
a variety of cultures.
